Bluewater’s mediator: Bluewater’s mediator is Lene Madsen, a family lawyer called to the bar in Ontario. Lene has pursued mediation training both in Boulder Colorado, and in Ontario. She is an Accredited Member of the Ontario Association of Family Mediators. Lene is also trained as a Collaborative Lawyer and is a member of Collaborative Lawyers of London and Middlesex. Lene also represents children on behalf of the Office of the Children’s Lawyer, in high conflict family cases, and in child protection cases.
Lene opened her family mediation and family law practice in London, Ontario, after practicing for a number of years at Epstein Cole, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada’s largest specialist family law firm. Before practicing with that firm, Lene was a Law Clerk to former Chief Justice McMurtry.
Before entering the practice of law, Lene worked in the field of international development and human rights, where much of her work involved facilitating cooperative processes between agencies and professionals. She has worked and studied in Africa (Kenya and Tanzania), Asia (India, Nepal, and Sri Lanka), and Europe (Denmark, Bosnia, and Croatia), in addition to her work in Canada.
For five years, from 2005 to 2010, Lene collaborated with Philip Epstein, Q.C., the senior partner at Epstein Cole, LLP in Toronto, co-authoring a weekly, national, on-line family law publication entitled “Epstein and Madsen’s This Week in Family Law” published by Westlaw and available to subscribers. Lene also assists senior London family lawyer Alfred A. Mamo in research for his annual publication entitled Annual Review of Family Law, published by Thomson Carswell.
Lene has a law degree from Osgoode Hall Law School in Toronto (2002), a Masters Degree in Environmental Studies from York University in Toronto (2000), and an Honours Bachelor of Arts Degree (1992) from McGill University in Montreal, Canada. She is presently a Candidate for a Master of Laws in Alternative Dispute Resolution, through Osgoode Hall Law School.
Presently, Lene is Vice Chair of the Middlesex Family Lawyers Association.
